It is said to be the joint decision of Dharam Singh and Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge after the party high command and the State party leadership reposed its full confidence in them to produce a surprise result.
Ajay Singh will be pitted against three time MLC and Chairman of the D M Nanjundappa Report Implementation Committee Shashil Namoshi. Namoshi has little to lose in the event of an adverse outcome as he will continue to remain MLC and Committee Chairman enjoying the Cabinet minister status. For BJP, winnability is the only guiding principle and accordingly it has visualised a winning horse in Namoshi.
The JD(S) which is virtually groping in the dark in the absence of a worthy candidate has chosen to bank upon sympathy factor by roping in Aruna Patil Rewur, the widow of Chandrashekhar Patil Rewur whose death has caused the by election.
After the BJP stoutly denied ticket to both the wife and son of Rewur, a development which JD(S) state supremo and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy had anticipated, the party readily took her in to its fold.
The three major contenders will be filing their nomination papers on Wednesday, the last day for filing papers. From the Kadur Assembly constituency, the Congress has decided to field K M Kemparaju.
