BHEL staffer commits suicide

According to police, the deceased, Shafiq Ahmed, was depressed as he was suffering from prolonged eye problem.

He has left behind a suicide note stating that he was taking the extreme step as his disease was not curable and he was about to lose his eye sight. He was found hanging by his wife, who returned home after dropping their kids to school.

“According to his wife Nauzzat Fathima, his left eye had some problem and he had almost lost his sight. Three months ago, his right eye also got infected and he was quite disturbed by that,” the police added.

Dies in road mishap

A private TV channel employee died in a road accident on Nandini Layout Ring Road on Wednesday.

The Rajajinagar traffic police said the victim, K T Harish (29) was a bachelor and a resident of Nandini Layout. He was a native of Chikmagalur district and was working as studio assistant at the TV channel office on M G Road. The accident occurred near FTI Circle around 4.15 pm when Harish was trying to cross the road.

A speeding mini lorry knocked him down, killing the pedestrian on the spot. The driver abandoned the vehicle and vanished from the scene. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem at M S Ramaiah Hospital.

Youth stabbed to death

A youth was stabbed to death allegedly by one of his friends on Tuesday afternoon in Banaswadi area. Police said the victim, Deepak John Paul (22) was a resident of Babusapalya and employed as a cashier at a pizza outlet. Police said, Deepak had gone to his friend David’s house in Ramaswamy Layout along with three other friends at around 3.30 pm, on the fateful day.

“According to Deepak’s friends, Deepak began teasing David over his dark complexion. David retaliated by commenting on Deepak’s short height. This went on  for some time and the episode took an ugly turn when David stabbed Deepak on his chest,” the police said. Deepak was rushed to a hospital where he died later. David surrendered at the High Grounds police station. He was handed over to Banaswadi police.

Rs 2 lakh robbed

Two persons robbed a woman of her Rs two lakh cash near Indraprastha Hotel in Vijaynagar on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred minutes after Prabha and Ananthram of Saraswathinagar withdrew the cash from Canara Bank and were returning to a parking lot where Prabha had parked her two-wheeler. The suspects snatched the bag containing the money and fled, added the police.

New DCP

The State Government on Wednesday transferred Superintendent of Police, Bidar, N Sathish Kumar and posted him as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Bangalore city, with immediate effect. Dharwad SP D Prakash has been transferred and posted as the SP, Bidar.
