Man who died seven years ago arrested in Delhi!

Singh, now 60, was apprehended from near Nawaria Park in outer Delhi's Mangol Puri on August ten while he was trying to hide behind a tree after he spotted a police patrol party.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Chhaya Sharma today said Singh, hailing from Ludhiana, retired from JK Industries in Udaipur sometime back and is presently unemployed.

After his first wife died, he married Sukhwinder Kaur with whom he later got separated. Later, he secretly solemnised a third marriage with one Kulwant Kaur.As Singh told police that he was there to meet his niece Avinash Kaur, police met her who told them that he was her maternal uncle and that he had died in 2003.

"She further said that he had died in Civil Hospital in Ludhiana on October 17, 2003 and the post mortem was conducted in the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Ludhiana on October 19, 2003. The house in which she was living belongs to her uncle who had given it to her for permanent stay," Sharma said.

Investigators then found that Sukhwinder Kaur had filed a case in a Delhi court for eviction of Avinash Kaur from the house stating that her husband was dead.
However, when police went to Central Jail in Ludhiana, it was found that the names of parents of deceased Joginder Singh and the arrested man were same but the names of their grandfathers were different.

Sensing some foul play, police again interrogated Singh who said that Sukhwinder had filed a case against him for maintenance and he had fled from Yamuna Nagar to Ludhiana in 2002 to avoid legal proceedings, Sharma said.

"Incidentally, a person by the same name and having same parent names had also shifted to Ludhiana and died in Civil Hospital. Singh came to know about this and found it a golden opportunity to declare himself dead so that he can escape from the case," the officer said.

"He sent the details of the death of the other Joginder Singh to Sukhwinder to make her close all legal proceedings against him so that he can enjoy freedom with his third wife Kulwant Kaur," Sharma said.He also kept on changing his residences to avoid being identified by anyone.
