Govt Flying Training School gets new director

Last Updated 26 August 2010, 18:09 IST

The GFTS witnessed no activity in the past 14 years, and the director’s post was lying vacant for a long time. Suresh had served as the private secretary to the Minister for Textiles, Youth Services and Sports.

The School has a full-fledged director for the first time. Until now, the GFTS was managed by outsourcing a technical person, Chief flying instructor, who was also designated as principal and administrator of the School.

According to sources, during a visit to the School recently, Directorate General of Civil Aviation officials cautioned the minister that the license would be cancelled unless they appointed a director.

Aviation experts feel that mere kickstarting the GFTS will not serve the purpose. The government should revive the earlier Civil Aviation Department of Karnataka.
