In an application filed to the jail superintendent, Rathore has asked for 30 days’ parole to harvest his crop at his farm located in Raipur Rani, about 50 km from here.

The application has been forwarded to the Panchkula district administration for further action.

Sources said the Panchkula police had recommended to the administration for granting parole to Rathore after examining the matter.

Rathore was convicted to 18 months’ imprisonment last year after a CBI court found him guilty of molesting 14-year-old Ruchika about 20 years ago. Ruchika had later committed suicide.

Meanwhile, Ruchika’s family has opposed granting of parole to Rathore apprehending threat to their life.

The deceased girl’s father, Subhash Girhotra said: “He should not be let out on parole. The whole family will feel insecure and we apprehend threat to our life.”

However, the Panchkula police claims that the family has been provided security and need not fear in case Rathore is granted parole.
