Full-time, 4-year BSc in Optometry

Students who have completed their 12th grade or 2nd PUC with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Maths as their core subjects are eligible for the course, which includes a one-year internship at the Sankara Eye Hospital.

The intake per batch will be limited to 20 students and the first batch will commence from October 16, 2010.

The college has state-of-the art infrastructure with labs for Optics, Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, classrooms with audiovisual facilities, library with internet access, specialty clinics in occularistry, low vision, vision therapy, paediatric optometry, sports vision and contact lenses, besides providing exposure to optical and fitting of prescription lenses.

It is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka as well as national and International organisations like ASCO (Association of Schools & Colleges of Optometry), WCO (World Council of Optometry) and IACLE (International Association of Contact Lens Educators).

Explaining the relevance of the specialised course, Dr Ramani, Head of the College Advisory Board and Managing Trustee of Sankara Eye Hospital, says: “With over one- fourth of the world’s blind population in India, specialisation in optometry and advanced world-class curricu-lum in this area are much needed to help address the issue in the long term.”
