Last Updated 14 September 2010, 11:16 IST

The man, Golu Jagtap, has been arrested, Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

Jagtap entered the locomotive of Mhow-Ratlam Fast Passengers stationed at platform No 1 when the driver and his assistant were not in the cabin.

As the engine was on, the accused pulled the train to some distance. When the driver and his assistant saw the train has chugged off, they rushed to the locomotive and stopped it, they said.

Jagtap was taken away with the help of GRP personnel.
The train, with around 500 people, had covered 20 metres when it was stopped, according to eyewitnesses.

GRP has handed over the case to Railway Protection Force (RPF). "We are going to investigate the incident," Western Railway (Ratlam Division) Public Relations Officer Pradeep Sharma said.
