Infosys gains over 2%, investors earn Rs 17K cr in 8 sessions

Shares of the company emerged as the top performer on the BSE-30 benchmark Sensex with a gain of 2.49 per cent at Rs 3,050.15. The scrip, during the day, soared 2.79 per cent to hit a year-high of Rs 3,059.

The counter, which carries the maximum weight on the Sensex after RIL, has witnessed a rise of 10.88 per cent in the eight straight sessions. The IT major's market capitalisation swelled by a whopping Rs 17,188 crore in the last eight sessions to Rs 1,75,048 crore.

Marketmen said the stock is gaining momentum primarily on the portfolio churning by investors coupled with the promising data from the retail sector and economic recovery in the US. Infosys saw a similar upmove on the National Stock Exchange and settled 2.5 per cent higher at Rs 3,050. Over 20 lakh shares of the company were traded on the bourses.

The rise in the counter also helped in the gain of BSE-IT index, which ended 144.74 points higher at 5,949.46 points, becoming the maximum gainer among the 13 sectoral indices.

IT giants Wipro and TCS also finished the day with handsome gains of 2.25 per cent and 2.18 per cent, respectively. Among the other IT gainers include---Patni Computers (4.74 per cent), Tech Mahindra (3.29 per cent) and HCL Tech (3.20 per cent). The broader market Sensex ended on a positive note higher by 155 points at 19,502.11.
