'Visual artists neglected in Dasara festival'

He was speaking at a press conference in the city on Wednesday. Despite the city being known as a cultural capital, artists are not being encouraged, he alleged.

During the past three years visual artists are being neglected at the Dasara Festival, he said.

In the committee concerning performing arts, there are no visual artists. Due to this art programmes are not being organised. He said that in Hampi Utsav, art by national-level artists are displayed. But there is no such set-up in Dasara, he said.

N B Kaverappa of Bharani Art Gallery said that earlier, the committee for performing used to make preparations for Dasara. But during the past few years, the committees are formed when only a few days are left for Dasara.

The member of Visual Arts Federation demanded that the Performing Arts Committee should be formed before one month of the Dasara festival. They also demanded that artists be made appointed as president and members of the committees.

Vice president L S N Achar, secretary Muralidhar, Vittala Reddy Chuluki were present.
