HC seeks affidavit on excise licence condition

The impugned rule enables a licence-holder to shift the licence to any part in a district. The petitioner - Basappa of Belaum - had submitted that the gazette notification by the State Government will encourage licence holders to shift to villages. He had contended that the rule runs contrary to Article 47 of the Indian Constitution.

While the government sought an adjournment, a Division Bench comprising  Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice Manjula Chellur directed to file objections within four weeks considering the significance of the matter.
