The right answers mattered

Quiz time

The first leg of the qualifying rounds for The Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz was held at R V College of Engineering recently. The Embassy of Sweden, based in Delhi, in association with R V QuizCorp organised the event for the second time to celebrate the Swedish luminary Alfred Nobel.

 Vijaya Deepthi, vice president of TCS and the chief guest for the event inaugurated the function and spoke about the initiatives that TCS has taken to encourage quizzing in the country. B S Satyanarayana, the Principal, focused on the importance of quizzing in the age of 'crisp answers'. Alexandra Berg Von Linde, secretary of Economic Affairs, Embassy of Sweden spoke of the Embassy's presence in India and on the many levels at which the countries collaborate.

Quizmaster Adittya Nath Mubayi, who hosted the event, made it an entertaining and informative event with his hosting skills. All the questions were based on Alfred Nobel,  Nobel Prize and Sweden. Ninety teams consisting of three members each attended the preliminary round which had 25 questions and only six teams were selected for the final round.

Teams from Global Academy of Technology, National Law School of India University, R N S Institute of Technology, M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology, R V College of Engineering and BITS Pilani, Goa campus qualified for the finals.

 After a fiercely fought six rounds, Sudarshan M A, Vineet Raj and Rahul Gupta of R V College of Engineering emerged winners scoring 60 points. The audience also got an opportunity to take part in the event and for every right answer, they were given attractive prizes.

“We are the regular quizzers and victory is a result of our combined effort. Though we prepared for a general quiz, we focused on Sweden too, and that helped us a lot," said Sudarshan, wearing a winning smile. “We know that the competition will be tough in the grand finale, so we have to prepare properly,” added Vineet Raj.

The students will represent Bangalore in the grand finale to be held in Delhi on October 23, where the winners from Delhi, Pune and Mumbai will give them a fight. The winners of the national round will get an all-expense paid trip to Sweden. The finalists will be given a chance to intern in some of the prestigious companies.
