AIR M'lore to host Sangeet Sammelan on Sept 25

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, Programme Executive Sharada said Sangeet Sammelan will feature carnatic music concerts in Mangalore. As part of the Sammelan, top grade and ‘A’ grade artists will perform Hindustani and Carnatic music concerts at venues spread across the country. Moreover, AIR Mangalore has got this opportunity to host the same after six years.

AIR Programme Executive Concepta Fernandes said Padmavathy Ananthagopalan will be rendering a veena recital at 6 pm. She will be accompanied by Neyveli Narayanan on mridangam and Dr S Karthik on Ghatam. Ananthagopalan hails from a family of violonists. She is the sister of violin maestro Lalgudi G Jayaraman. She has worked for eight years in the Indian Fine Arts Society in Singapore and brought about a revolution in the science of teaching there.

This will be followed by Carnatic Vocal by Dr Subhashini Parthasarathy, ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR. Parthasarathy also hails from a family of musicians and has received PhD for her thesis on Padams and Javalis. She will be accompanied by R K Sriram Kumar on violin, K Arunprakash on Mridangam and Udupi S Shrikanth on Ganjira.
Moreover, AIR Mangalore station’s ‘A’ grade Ghatam artiste Trichy K R Kumar has been chosen by the Directorate to perform in Akashavani Sangeet Sammelan 2010 concert at Calicut, she added.

The recordings of the concert by Padmavathy Ananthagopalan will be broadcast on national hook up on November 2 at 10 pm and the Dr Subhashini Parthasarathy’s performance will be broadcast on November 15 at 10 pm.
 
New programmes
Programme Executive Sooryanarayana Bhat said that AIR Mangalore will introduce two new programmes—Radio serial and ‘Vaarada athithi’ programme in the month of October.
Radio serial— ‘Taalamaddale’ will be started from October 7 onwards at 7.15 pm. The story for the serial is written by K T Gatty. There are 26 episodes in the serial which revolves around the relationship of two families.

In ‘Vaarada Athithi,’ a well-known personalities from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts will be interviewed. It will be broadcast on every Sunday between 8.40 am and 9.10 am.
