Religious leaders urged to join hands in maintaining peace

Addressing the meeting here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda called upon the people of the district to maintain peace irrespective of the court verdict.

On the direction of the state government, peace meeting has been convened. Nobody should resort to violence and pay heed to the rumours. The religious leaders should join hands with the district administration in preserving the harmony of the region, he added.
Superintendent of Police Manjunath K Annigeri said that Kodagu is a peace loving district. The police department is seeking the co-operation of all in maintaining peace. As a precautionary measure, the department has already identified sensitive areas and additional force will be deployed. Four CRPF platoons, 10 DAR platoons and the district police personnel will be deployed for the security purpose.
CMC President P D Ponnappa said “it is our responsibility to maintain peace in the district. Whatever may be the verdict, the need of the hour is to live in harmony. The CMC will help the district administration in maintaining peace.”

Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) district president K S Devaiah said: “We have not received any directions from our senior leaders on the measures to be taken after the announcement of the Court verdict. The people of the district are peace loving and let us continue to live in peace. We will inform our future course of action to the district administration.”

Badriya Jamaath President M E Haneef said that “whatever may be the verdict, we will not observe either vijayotsava or black day. We will respect the verdict of the court.”
Taluk Panchayat member Sheshappa, District Vehicle Owners Association office-bearers Usman and Lathif said “there is a need to keep an eye in the sensitive areas. In case if anyone tries to spoil the peaceful atmosphere, then we will nab them and hand them over to the police.”
BJP leader Robin Devaiah appealed the police not to arrest innocents.
