With time running out and criticism of facilities mounting, a worried Prime Minister’s Office had on Wednesday directed the Delhi government to get all the cleanliness work completed “within 24 hours”. Which means by Friday morning, the Village should be fit for occupation.
Shocked further by the damaging pictures of “filth and unhygienic condition” of the flats in the Village beamed by the BBC on Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit herself visited the area, doing rounds of all the towers and reviewing works being undertaken there.
The chief minister, already pushed to a corner by the tardy progress in works and for matters of hygiene, instructed the officials to work on a war-footing and finish cleaning up the place within 24 hours.
