‘Power the future’ is the theme of the third edition of Girem, Global Initiative for Restructuring Environment and Management, the flagship Urban Development and Real Estate Conference being held in Goa (September 23-25). Key strategists, urban planners, industry experts, and top bureaucrats are debating the myriad issues that confront urban planning at the conference, which has 400 delegates from across the globe.

“With the percentile growth of population in rural and urban areas during the decade (2001-2011) estimated at 17.9 and 31.2 pc respectively, urban India is faced with gargantuan issues – pressure on housing and industrial requirements; civic infrastructure such as water supply, sewerage, drainage etc. These pressing issues need immediate and long-term sustainable solutions and all the stake-holders understand that they cannot be discussed and dealt in silos, therefore Girem. It is an initiative to bring different key players together in the pursuit of planned and sustainable urban development,” said GIREM and ED Triple Tree President Shyam Sundar S Pani. The conference places special emphasis on the corporate end users of commercial and office spaces in the country by addressing their needs and concerns. AnujPuri, Chairman and Country Head, Jones Lang LaSalle, India said, “An event like GIREM provides the right platform for industry professionals and enthusiasts to connect with the real world.”

Topics like development inclusive environment, building sustainable townships, urban waste – water management, tall buildings, energy management, connected real estate: remote facility management, SEZ - pains and gains, project management - on time delivery are being discussed at the conference.
