DC tells pvt bus operators to shift to new bus stand

In the public interest, all the private buses should shift to the newly built private bus stand in Madikeri, said Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya.

Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday, she said that the bus stand was inaugurated nine months ago. However, the buses are yet to utilise the facilities.

All the basic facilities have been provided at the bus stand. In the interest of the public, all the private bus operators should operate from the new bus stand, directed the DC.

She said that the CMC should conduct a traffic route survey and clear all the encroachments that come in the way of movement of buses.

The officials from CMC, police, revenue, RTO and PWD should conduct the survey jointly and submit a report within three days, she directed.

CMC President Kaveramma Somanna said that the unauthorised buildings will be cleared in the CMC jurisdiction and promised all help to the private bus owners in shifting to the new bus stand.

Private Bus Owners Association President Hosooru Ramesh Joyappa said that the plying of buses on Raja Seat route is inconveniencing the students of St Michael School. It is also causing inconvenience to the tourists who visit Raja Seat.

CMC Vice President T S Prakash said, “One-way traffic from Mungerira Muthanna Circle to the new private bus stand is inconveniencing the people. Two-way traffic should be introduced on the stretch. Encroachments should be cleared on either side of the road.”

Superintendent of Police Suman D Pennekar said, “Looking at the response for one-way traffic, we can change the traffic movement in the future.”

CMC Junior Engineer Vanitha said that the work on drinking water, toilets and electricity connections at the new private bus stand has been completed.

Town Planning Department AEE Hemanth Kumar said that private buses should travel from General Thimayya Circle-Mungerira Muthanna Circle-Raja Seat-LIC Office Road to reach the private bus stand.

From the private bus stand, the buses should travel via industrial layout-KSRTC bus stand-Ajjamada Devaiah Circle-Mungerira Muthanna Circle, he added.
