Nature comes alive in all its glory in Kodagu

Monsoon is the time to discover Nature’s bounty and splendour in the Kodagu district, with its beautiful green surroundings and overflowing rivers.

The roar of the waterfalls gushing down the rocky cliffs is also a magnificent sight for the visitors.

A large number of tourists throng the district during weekends. Connoisseurs of natural beauty are drawn to the magnificent waterfalls in different parts of the district.

The beauty of the clouds kissing the hilly ranges is another view in the district during monsoon.

The lush green covering near Raja Seat is a must visit during the rainy season. The forest adjacent to Raja Seat caught fire during February -March period, thus destroying the rich flora and fauna. With the onset of monsoon in the last two weeks, the number of visitors has doubled.

The kalyani (temple pond) at the Omkareshwara Temple is full. The pond teeming with fish is another wonderful sight.

The garden adjacent to Rajara Gadduge in Mahadevapete is another place visited in large numbers.

A trek in the midst of coffee plantations will lead the visitors to Abbey Falls situated four to five kilometre away from Madikeri. The waterfalls are milky white. Mandalpatti beckons Nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.

There is a demand for homestays in Kodagu during monsoon. However, middlemen are engaged in charging exorbitant fees for the homestay.

K Prasad, a software engineer from Bengaluru said that he visits Madikeri during every monsoon. “It gives me a pleasure to get drenched in the rain here,” he said.
