Polling for S-W Teachers, Graduates seats peaceful

The polling for South West Graduates and Teachers constituencies in Dakshina Kannada district was peaceful on Friday.

The district has recorded 64.61% polling in Graduates constituency and 76.16% polling in Teachers constituency.

The South West Graduates and Teachers’ constituency comprise DK, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga and two taluks of Davangere.

The Dakshina Kannada district had 23 polling booths for graduates constituency and 14 for teachers constituency.

There are 15,494 graduate voters and 7,140 teachers voters in the district.

Out of the 7,140 teachers voters, 5,438 have exercised their franchise. There
was brisk polling since morning.

A total of 152 voters in Mulki, 598 voters in Moodbidri, 485 in Surathkal, 64 in Bajpe, 170 in Gurpura, 1190 University College, Hampankatte, 89 in Konaje, 196 in Babbukatte, 657 in Bantwal, 731 in Belthangady, 656 in Puttur, 345 in Sullia and 105 voters in Panja have exercised their franchise.

Out of 15,494 graduate voters, 10,011 have exercised their franchise. As many as 271 voters in Mulki, 719 in Moodbidri, 852 in Surathkal, 135 in Bajpe, 310 in Gurpura, 2590 in Hampankatta, 176 in Konaje, 356 in Babbukatte, 1768 in Bantwal, 806 in Belthangady, 1337 in Puttur, 544 in Sullia and 157 in Panja have exercised their franchise.

In fact, the district administration had sent SMS to teacher voters giving out details on the serial number and polling booth.

There were eight candidates in the fray for Graduate’s constituency—Arun Kumar (JDS), Ayanooru Manjunath (BJP), S P Dinesh (Congress), J C Patel (Sarva Janata Party), Jafarulla Sathar Khan, G M Jayakumar, Prabhulinga B R and B K Manjunath (Independents).

There were 12 candidates in the Teachers constituency— Capt Ganesh Karnik (BJP), S L Bhoje Gowda (JDS),
K K Manjunath Kumar (Congress), Arun Hosakoppa, Aloysius D’Souza, K B Chandroji Rao, D K Tulasappa, Ampara Nityananda Shetty, Prabhulinga B R, Basavarajappa K C, M Ramesh and Rajendrakumar K P (Independents).

Good turnout in Udupi

The polls held for South-West Graduates’ constituency recorded 62.11% and South-West Teachers’ constituency 85.08% of voting in the district.

Out of the total 362 voters in the Teachers’ constituency in Udupi, 308 voted. Similarly, out of the 8,276 voters in the Graduates' constituency in Udupi, 5,140 voters voted respectively.

There were 69 polling booths for the Graduates’ constituency and 68 polling booths for Teachers' constituency.
