Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Textiles and Information and Broadcasting, has said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi has insulted the Nation by disrespecting the National Song Vande Matharam.

“Kodagu is the land of brave soldiers like Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimayya, who made Mother India proud. Indians will not tolerate such a blunder as Rahul Gandhi’s,” she said.

Addressing a campaign rally of BJP on Monday, she lambasted Rahul Gandhi for insisting upon cutting short the national song during a Congress campaign and said that the Congress has no respect for the nation. Rahul Gandhi visits Karnataka only during elections. He has least idea of the rich heritage of Karnataka or the brave hearts of the district, she said.

‘Siddarupayya govt’

Referring to the chief minister as ‘Siddarupayya’, Smriti said that progress will be a distant dream in Karnataka until the Congress remains to be in power in the state. She appealed to the voters to vote for BJP in order to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is striving hard for the development of the nation.

“The Central government has facilitated a soil testing centre, an Agricultural Research Centre and a Passport Centre in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, which is represented by Rahul Gandhi. The AICC president should have appreciated the prime minister, but, he has not. On the other hand, he is all praises for Siddaramaiah, which is laughable,” she said.

Film actor and BJP State Mahila Morcha General Secretary Shruti said that the ultimate motto of the BJP is not forming the government, but the formation of a healthy society. “Modi, as a patriot and an honest worker, has been able to bring about a positive change in the country. The BJP has established its position in 21 states of the country. Karnataka elections play a vital role at this juncture,” she opined.

Independent charge

“The Modi government holds the credit of handing over independent charge of the Defence Ministry to a woman for the first time in the history of the nation. Under the Ujjwala scheme, the Central government has provided free LPG connections to households, to bring the women from less privileged classes to the mainstream,” Shruti added.

“By observing the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan, who cheated the Kodava people, the state government has insulted the people of Kodagu. Kodavas will give a befitting reply to the Siddaramaiah government for its divide-and-rule policies,” she added.

BJP candidate Appachu Ranjan, BJP observer Dharmanarayan Joshi, V M Vijaya, S B Bharat Kumar, K V Manjunath and J K Muttamma and district BJP president B B Bharatish were present.
