Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 | Few ministers won, many heavyweights suffer massive defeat

Chief Minister Atishi's win stands out as one of the few success stories for Aam Aadmi Party.

New Delhi: Amid the BJP's sweeping victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, Chief Minister Atishi and only three ministers in the outgoing AAP government -- Gopal Rai, Mukesh Ahlawat and Imran Hussain -- managed to secure wins on Saturday, while several big names including party supremo Arvind Kejriwal and many of his confidants bit the dust.

Atishi emerged victorious in Kalkaji, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes. A key strategist for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Atishi's win stands out as one of the few success stories for the party.

In Babarpur, Rai, the Environment Minister retained his seat with a margin of 18,994 votes over BJP's Anil Kumar Vashisht. Rai is a three-time MLA from the constituency.

Ahlawat, Employment Minister secured victory in Sultanpur Majra, defeating BJP's Karam Singh Karma by 17,126 votes. Hussain, the food and civil supplies minister, won from Ballimaran with the highest margin among the AAP's prominent faces, defeating BJP's Kamal Bagri.

Heavyweights lose

The party suffered a massive blow as top leader Arvind Kejriwal, who was the Chief Minister for three consecutive times, lost to BJP leader Parvesh Verma from New Delhi segment.

Verma defeated Kejriwal by 4,089 votes, securing 30,088 votes against the AAP supremo's 25,999. In Jangpura, Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia lost to BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah by just 675 votes.

Home and Power Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, who won three times from Greater Kailash was defeated by BJP's Shikha Roy in Greater Kailash by 3,188 votes.

Former Delhi Minister Satyender Jain lost from Shakur Basti seat where he represented twice in a row. Jain was arrested in 2022 in a corruption case. He lost to BJP's Karnal Singh.

Somnath Bharti, from AAP lost to Satish Upadhyay from Malviya Nagar.

Congress top leaders :

Several top Congress leaders including Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister late Sheila Dikshit, lost in the New Delhi segment while senior leader Alka Lamba lost in Kalkaji Assembly segment against CM Atishi.
