Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 | How did the richest candidates perform?

BJP is all set to return to power in Delhi after a gap of almost two-and-a-half decades with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) biting the dust in the Assembly Polls, while Congress has been pushed to a distant third.

As per, Association for Democratic Rights (ADR) data, five of the 699 candidates who were in the fray were billionaires including Parvesh Verma, who has now emerged as the front-runner for the Chief Minister's post after BJP's resounding win.

The richest among the candidates as per ADR data was Karnail Singh, who fought on a BJP ticket from Shakur Basti. Prior to the polls, he had declared assets worth Rs 259.67 crore.

In a seat which saw a three-cornered contest, Karnail won the seat with a margin of 20,998 votes against AAP's sitting MLA Satyendra Jain.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate Atish Kumar Luthra, who was expected to give a big fight, was relegated to the third spot.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, with a net worth of Rs 248.85 crore was the second richest in the billionaires list. In a 'battle billionaires', contesting on a BJP ticket from Rajouri Garden constituency, Sirsa beat AAP's siting MLA Dhanwati Chandela by a margin of by 18,190 votes. Incidentally, Chandela is the fifth in the rich list with net worth of Rs 109.90 crore.

Congress' Gurcharan Singh with a net worth of Rs 130.90 crore, was the third in 'rich candidates' list. Gurcharan lost badly though as he ended up third in the Krishna Nagar constituency which was won by BJP's Dr Anil Goel.

Parvesh, who is fourth in the billionaires list with a net asset of Rs 115.63 crore, turned out to be the big story of the Delhi elections as he earned the 'giant-killer' tag after stunning ex Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal from the prestigious New Delhi Assembly seat.

Son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, Parvesh won with a margin of 4089 votes. Congress’s Sandeep Dixit, son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, was pushed to a distant third as he polled just 4,541 votes. The constituency had recorded a 56.41 per cent voter turnout on February 5.
