Actor Salman Khan's latest movie Antim, which hit the screens on November 26, collected nearly Rs 2 crore at the box office on its second Saturday. The gangster drama collected Rs 4.5 crore on day 1 despite facing competition from John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate 2.

It stayed strong on Saturday and Sunday and ended its first weekend at nearly Rs 18 crore. The film remained fairly stable on weekdays, passing the crucial 'Monday Test'. While Antim exceeded expectations in Maharastra and mass centres, it didn't make a strong impact in the multiplex circuit. It also underperformed in markets such as Bengaluru and Chennai.

The film, nonetheless, managed to end its first week with a tally of nearly Rs 30 crore. Antim witnessed a dip on Friday (December 3) as Tadap, which hit the screens on December 3, emerged as the top choice of the 'Gen Y' crowd. The fact that it bounced back on its second Saturday, however, indicates that its run is far from over.

Antim's collection is not at par with a Race 3 or even a Dabangg 3. This, however, is not an issue as it is not a conventional Salman film. 'Bhai' has an extended cameo in the flick while Aayush Sharma, the star of the underwhelming Loveyatri, plays the lead role. Moreover, it wasn't promoted as aggressively as expected.

Antim received positive reviews with most critics praising the realistic storyline and sincere performances. The word of mouth is better than expected, something that helped it overpower Satyameva Jayate 2.

Antim, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, is an action drama that revolves around the clash between a gangster and a Sikh cop. It is based on the Marathi movie Mulshi Pattern and caters to a mass audience. It stars TV actor Mahima Makwana as the female protagonist and marks her Bollywood debut. The cast includes Nikitin Dheer, Sachin Khedekar, Upendra Limaye, Lankesh Bhardwaj and Varun Dhawan.
