Actor John Abraham's Mumbai Saga opened to a good response at the box office on Friday and collected Rs 2.82 crore (net) on the opening day. It failed to beat Roohi (Rs 3.06 crore) -- the first major Bollywood film to release under the 'new normal'. This, however, wasn't too surprising as the Rajkummar Rao-starrer had benefited from the Mahashivratri holiday.
Mumbai Saga continued its run on Saturday, witnessing a good jump in the collection.
According to trade analyst Prateek Dubey, the multi-starrer might witness a jump of 100 per cent if the evening shows receive the desired response. Initial estimates suggest that director Sanjay Gupta's magnum opus may collect nearly Rs 5 crore on the second day in a best-case scenario.
Great jump for #MumbaiSaga today on Day2 all over!! Fantastic occupancy in big cities, Rocking in single screen cinemas already, have picked up drastically!

If this is indeed the case, it will collect around Rs 7 crore in two days and beat Roohi, which had raked in around Rs 5 crore in the same window.

The film will, however, prove to be no match for John's last two mass movies Satyameva Jayate and Batla House, which collected more than Rs 20 crore in the first two days, but this is along expected lines as they had hit the screens under the 'old normal' when theatres were operating at 100 per cent capacity across the country.
The response to Roohi and Mumbai Saga is, either way, likely to help the Hindi film industry regain its mojo after the lockdown, which is good news for the makers of upcoming films such as Rade and Sooryavanshi.
Mumbai Saga has received fairly positive reviews with most critics praising the 'massy' screenplay and performances. The word of mouth is above-average, which should help the film remain strong in the coming days. It is also unlikely to face competition from the week's other major release Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar as the Arjun Kapoor-starrer has proved to be a non-starter.
