Entry of contract carriage buses into city banned

Last Updated 02 November 2018, 18:00 IST

City Police Commissioner T R Suresh on Friday directed traffic police to ban the entry of contract carriage buses into the city from 8 am to 8 pm.

He gave the directions when the residents complained about how the multi-axle vehicles, parked haphazardly on roads near Milagres Church and P V S Circle, were choking traffic and causing inconvenience to pedestrians at city police chief’s 93rd phone-in programme organised at his office.

The commissioner also directed the traffic officials to stop fish trucks from spilling waste onto the roads.

A resident complained that two-wheelers, in particular, were skidding after stepping onto the foul water.

Suresh told the police officials to step up night patrolling in Ullalbail after a resident highlighted an increase in burglaries. A resident accused Onyx Bar of operating in the wee hours.

On Thursday, 190 cases were booked against private city buses found violating the guidelines on Thursday (without issuing tcket – 34; Cases of shrill horn – 79 cases, rash and negligence driving- 28 cases and other issues – 49 cases), Suresh said.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth said 204 cases have been booked against school vehicles.
