Homemade stuff attracts visitors to Can Bazaar Utsav

The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development for Women, in association with the women’s wing Small Industries Association, organised the Can Bazaar Utsav an expo of artefacts at Kanthi Church Hall at Mangaladevi.

Former MLA J R Lobo, who spoke on the occasion, said, “Self help groups play a vital role in bringing women to the mainstream of society. Such exhibitions help women showcase their skills.”

He said that a society cannot progress without women joining hands. “Women have an equal share in the progress of society. Women have a mark in all spheres of life,” he added.

Venkatesh, the vice president of the District Small Industries’ Association, said, “Women are known for preparing artefacts without the use of machinery.”

Lynette S L Pinto, assistant general manager, Canara Bank; Chandrakala K Rao, RTO superintendent; and others were present.

Women of the association had exhibited dresses, varieties of pickles, oil, papad, rasam and chutney powders, eatables, bags and artificial jewellery.

The exhibition will be on till October 19.
