IIT Kharagpur graduate gets Rs 1.54-crore pay package

In an unprecedented move, a fresh graduate from IIT Kharagpur has been offered a whooping starting pay package of Rs 1.54 crore, announced the engineering institute on Tuesday.

The offer came through campus placements, institute officials said. They,however, did not reveal the name of the student or the company that offered the package.

Sources said the offer was made by social networking site Facebook, which has recruited few other graduates from the institute.

IIT Kharagpur officials said that the highest package was offered by one of the 27 companies visiting on day one of campus placements. The companies made a total of 163 offers on December 1, the first day of campus placements.

The highest package offered by an Indian company is of Rs 42 lakh, officials said. IIT officials, who refused to disclose details of the student and the offering company, said the institute did not want “unnecessary attention to the student.” Officials claimed that Rs 1.54 crore offer is the highest ever received by any graduate from IIT Kharagpur.
