Illegal sand mining: Boats, tipper seized

The Bantwal police led by ASP Sonawane Rishikesh have seized two traditional boats, a tipper, petrol engines and others during a raid on illegal sand mining at Ajilamogru in Nalkooru village of Bantwal taluk in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Ravikanthe Gowda said that on seeing the police jeep, miscrents involved in illegal sand extraction fled the spot.

The police have seized a tipper, worth Rs 8 lakh along with sand worth Rs 12,000, two traditional boats worth Rs 2.80 lakh and petrol engines used in the boats worth Rs 80,000. The total value of the seized property is Rs 11.73 lakh.

All the seized properties have been handed over to Department of Mines and Geology, he added.
