<p>Narendra Modi’s caustic remarks on ‘Jayanthi tax’ sparked off a war of word between the Congress and the BJP with the ruling party claiming it as a reaction to the “festering snoopgate wound”.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The BJP attacked the Congress and accused former environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan of “cherrypicking” projects and stalling crucial projects where “collateral interests” were involved. <br /><br />Modi, at a rally in Goa on Sunday, had said that no file moved in the environment ministry without “Jayanthi tax”.<br /><br />AICC general secretary Digivijay Singh said Modi’s remarks were in “very bad taste” and should be condemned. <br /><br />“He only knows to abuse but doesn't give his vision,” Singh said adding that Modi should either prove his allegations or apologise.<br /><br /> Natarajan said Modi was targeting her as she has been at the forefront against his “divisive and destructive politics”.<br /><br />BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, meanwhile, said Modi's statement was not an off-the-cuff remark.</p>
