Wayanad Congress leaders hit back at Anurag Thakur's ‘vote theft’ charge

The former union minister had alleged that scores of people from different religions could be seen enrolled from the same house in Wayanad constituency.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leaders from Wayanad have termed baseless the allegation of former union minister Anurag Thakur that scores of illegal voters were enrolled in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala from where leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi won with huge margins.

While Anurag Thakur pointed out that scores of people from different religions could be seen enrolled from the same house, Congress camps countered that it was not one house, but a region. 

Congress MLA from Kalpetta in Wayanad T Siddique said in a social media post that the union minister's allegation was that people of different religion could be seen staying in the same house, named 'Chounderi', in Kalapetta as per the electoral rolls.

"A region once known as Chamundeswari kunnu is now known as Chounderi. People of different religions who stay in the region use 'Chounderi' as their house name. 

He also made a jibe at the union minister by stating that in Kerala people of different religion could be staying in the same home owing to the communal harmony. That could be surprising for BJP leaders who try to create communal divide, he said.

Thakur's allegation that a woman named Maimoona is found to be in the electoral roll of three booths was also being disproved by Congress camps by citing that they are three different women. Some news channels also called on the three women.
