CRPF gets first woman Special DG

Senior IPS officer Aruna Bahuguna will be the new Special Director General of the country's largest paramilitary force CRPF.

This is the first time a woman officer is occupying the second top post in the hierarchy of the force.

The appointment orders for Bahuguna, a 1979-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre officer, were issued today by the governement.

She was till now serving as the Chairman of the AP police housing corporation. Bahuguna is expected to take charge at the force headquarters here next week. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has three sanctioned posts for SDG and two of these have been lying vacant for close to four months.

CRPF was the first central paramilitary force to have an independent women battalion in 1986. At present, in the officers rank, the force has four women Deputy Inspectors General and an equal number of commandants.

The force has three 'mahila' battalions which have close to 3,000 women personnel in active duties of rendering law and order and internal security tasks.
