'Evil agenda will never succeed', PM Modi vows justice; leaders condemn Pahalgam terror attack

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday vowed not to spare terrorists involved in the attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, saying their “evil agenda” will never succeed and the country’s resolve to fight terrorism is “unshakable” and it will get “even stronger”.

While Modi is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, Home Minister Amit Shah briefed the Prime Minister about the afternoon incident in which terrorists targeted tourists. Modi instructed Shah to take all necessary actions and immediately visit Jammu and Kashmir.

Strongly condemning the incident, Modi condoled those who have lost their loved ones and said he prayed that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected, he said.

“Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” he posted on ‘X’.

President Droupadi Murmu called the attack on tourists "shocking and painful" and said the "dastardly and inhuman" act must be condemned unequivocally.

"Attacking innocent citizens, in this case tourists, is utterly appalling and unpardonable. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their dear ones and my prayers for the quick recovery of the injured," she said.

As he prepared to leave for Srinagar to hold an “urgent” security review meeting, Shah said he was “anguished” by the terror attack on tourists and his thoughts are with the family members of the deceased.

“Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences,” he said adding, he briefed the Prime Minister about the terror strike and held a meeting with officers through video-conferencing.

A "deeply anguished" Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the dastardly attack on innocent civilians is an "act of cowardice and highly reprehensible".

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar condemned the "cowardly terror" attack in Pahalgam.
