Flight operations normal at IGI

Last Updated 06 January 2010, 03:50 IST

The general visibility dropped to 50 metres due to fog but the runway visibility at main runway (28/10) was around 1,200 metres while at new runway (29/11) was 800 metres.

Some flights to cities like Imphal, Chandigarh and Srinagar were either delayed or cancelled due to bad weather conditions at those destinations.

Delhi airport remained closed for more than eight hours on Saturday last after dense fog enveloped the airport and the runway visual range measuring instrument at the main runway developed some problems, leading to a halt in flight operations.
Also a fault in the cable, providing live data about the visibility at the runways contributed to shutting down of the operations.
Though the fault was rectified on Sunday, both the runways became fit to be operated with Category III B instrument landing system only on Tuesday after Met department replaced the faulty unit and cable.
