The first fog of winter threw flight operations and train schedules out of gear in the capital on Monday.

With visibility dropping to 400 metres, some flights were delayed and a few trains were rescheduled throughout the day. Airport officials said 40 flights were affected due to dense fog since late Sunday night.

“Runway 29 of Indira Gandhi International Airport remained closed for most part of the morning as visibility at the runway fell below 50 metres. It was opened as the day proceeded and visibility improved,” an official said.

Nine flights bound for Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow were diverted, the official added. The fog was considerably thicker at the airport than in other parts of the capital.
