Israel PM Naftali Bennett postpones India visit after testing positive for Covid-19

Bennett, 50, was scheduled to visit India from April 3 to 5 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's visit to India has been postponed indefinitely as he has been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Bennett was expected to land in New Delhi on April 3 for his maiden visit to India after taking over as Prime Minister of Israel. He had earlier met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021. The two leaders had also spoken to each other over the telephone on August 16, 2021.

“The postponement of @naftalibennett visit to #India due to #COVID is a great disappointment for wonderful people at @IsraelinIndia @MEAIndia @IsraeliPM @indemtel who worked to make a great visit reflecting the outstanding India-Israel friendship,” Naor Gilon, Israel's ambassador to India, tweeted. “We can't wait to make this happen soon”

Benett tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection on Monday.

His visit would have marked the commemoration of the 30 years of full diplomatic relations between India and Israel.
