Israel Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will pay his first official visit to India between April 3-5 commemorating 30 years of full diplomatic relations between the two countries and furthering the bilateral relations between the two partners.

Bennett’s maiden visit as the Prime Minister assumes added significance in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict due to the fact that Israeli Prime Minister is the only Western leader to have met Russian President Vladimir Putin since the beginning of the conflict. Bennett has offered to play the role of a mediator between the two warring nations.

Announcing the visit the Ministry of External Affairs said the Israeli PM would undertake the three-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders had earlier met on the sidelines of COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, and also had a telephonic conversation on August 16, 2021.

India and Israel elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership during Modi’s visit to Israel in July 2017. Since then, the two countries have deepened their strategic partnership, with a focus on innovation and research.

New Delhi and Tel Aviv have long-standing relations strategic affairs with Israel emerging as one of India’s key military suppliers.

The Israel Prime Minister’s visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, water, trade, education and science and technology.
