Data lost in floods: Supreme Court grants time to Jammu and Kashmir govt to submit report on detained Pakistani nationals

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday granted further time to the Jammu and Kashmir government to apprise it about the number of Pakistani nationals detained under the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978.

A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan gave six more weeks to the Jammu and Kashmir government as the authorities informed it that the data relating to such prisoners were lost during floods in the union territory.

The court scheduled the matter for further hearing on July 25.

A plea was filed by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party leader and senior advocate Bhim Singh (now deceased) with regard to Pakistani citizens detained under the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978.

The plea sought a direction from the apex court that such persons to be freed and deported to Pakistan.
