J&K police attaches property worth Rs 2 crore belonging to designated terrorist’s family

Srinagar: In a fresh move to tighten the noose around alleged terror networks and their support structures, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday attached property valued at around ₹2 crore belonging to the family of designated terrorist Sajad Ahmad Sheikh alias Sajad Gul.

According to police, a three-storey residential house built over 15 marlas of land at Rose Avenue, HMT, in the city’s Khushipora area, has been attached under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The property stands in the name of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, father of the wanted militant, as per revenue records verified by the Tehsildar of Shalteng, Srinagar. The attachment was carried out in connection with FIR No. 235/2022, registered at Police Station Parimpora under sections 13, 38, and 20 of the UAPA and sections 2/3 of the Enemy Agents Ordinance (EIMCO) Act.

Proceedings were initiated under Section 25 of the UAPA, which empowers authorities to seize properties used or intended to be used for terrorist activities. The operation was executed in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

Police said that while the property is registered in the name of the terrorist’s father, investigation has established that Sajad Gul is an active stakeholder and beneficiary. “He has been instrumental in facilitating terrorism, spreading anti-national propaganda, and inciting disaffection against the government through various online and social media platforms,” a police statement said.

The move is part of the Srinagar Police’s broader strategy to dismantle the financial, logistical, and operational ecosystem of terrorism in Kashmir, including networks funded or supported from across the border.

Officials said the action underscores the administration’s resolve to curb terror financing and disrupt safe havens for militants and their associates. “Individuals or entities aiding terrorism will face strict legal consequences, including the forfeiture of assets acquired through unlawful means,” police added.

Sajad Gul, a resident of HMT, Srinagar, was declared a designated terrorist by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in 2022. Gul came under the scanner of security agencies for allegedly operating online propaganda platforms that glorified militancy and promoted anti-India narratives.

He is believed to be operating from Pakistan and has been accused of acting as a key media handler for proscribed outfits. Gul has also been accused of instigating youth through social media to join militant ranks in Jammu and Kashmir. The attachment of his family’s property, police officials said, is part of ongoing efforts to choke funding channels and deter local support for militants operating from abroad.
