This assurance was given by him to a group of senior journalists and writers who took up the matter with him on Thursday.

Shahina had been facing “harassment” from the Karnataka police for having interviewed the witnesses in the case relating to Abdul Nasser Madhani’s alleged involvement in the Bangalore bomb blasts case, according to a memorandum submitted by the group.

It said the State police had depended on the evidence given by the people living in Kodagu region to link Madhani with the serial blasts. These were the persons who, according to police, had claimed that they had seen Madhani when he reached the area at the time when the blasts were in the planning stage.

“When she interviewed two of the witnesses, K K Yoganand and Rafeek Bappatty, they told Shahina that they had not seen Madhani in the area at the time,’’ the memorandum said.
