13,000 potholes filled in Bengaluru so far, says D K Shivakumar; plans Rs 1,100 cr road upgrade

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said that all five city corporations together have filled 13,000 potholes, and an action plan is being drawn up to develop 550 km of roads at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore.

“Photos and videos have been taken of each pothole being filled. You (the media) can also check,” said Shivakumar, who also holds the Bangalore Urban Development portfolio, after inspecting roadworks in the city.

He said the government is seeking a permanent solution to Bengaluru’s road woes, indicating that several junctions will be white-topped. "It will take 26 days for the concrete to be laid and cured. We will work out traffic control measures,” he said, adding that the chief minister has promised Rs 750 crore for pothole works.

"No city minister in the country has ever called on the public to report potholes. But I have prepared a separate app for this, and potholes are being filled in cooperation with the police. Such an effort has been made only in Karnataka,” he said.

Shivakumar also directed officers to use CCTV footage to identify those dumping garbage on the roads and footpaths at night.
