14-year-old among three dead in separate incidents

H N Gayathri (75), a resident of Jayanagar had suffered burns when her saree caught fire on Saturday afternoon. Gayathri was cooking at her home, when the tragedy struck her in the form of a kerosene stove. She was admitted at K R Hospital, where she succumbed on Sunday early hours.

In another incident, Chandana (14), of Chikkaharadanahalli committed suicide by hanging self using her dupatta. She was studying in ninth standard at a Government School in Kuvempunagar here. The reason behind her extreme step is said to be acute stomach ache.

Ashokapuram Police have registered the cases.

Altaf (40) who was undergoing treatment at K R Hospital after suffering grievous burns in a freak mishap at his house on March 15, has succumbed. Altaf had sustained burns while trying to rescue his wife Syeda Begum and daughter Sumaya when the duo caught fire on that day.

Both the mother and daughter had been busy cooking in the kitchen, when the kerosene that had spilled over, caught fire, catching them off guard. All the three had been admitted for treatment at the hospital.

Udayagiri Police have registered a case.

Woman loses chain

Two bike-borne youths relieved a woman of her gold valuable worth ` 26,000 in Udayagiri Police Station limits on Sunday.

Shamshad Begum, a resident of Madhwachar Road, K R Mohalla is the victim.
The incident occurred around 2.45 pm, when she was returning home. The youths yanked off the chain from the rear, when Shamshad Begum accompanied by her husband Syed Zubair was on foot near a temple in Udayagiri. She could successfully retain some part of the chain. A case has been registered.

Gambling

Metagalli Police have arrested 14 persons on charges of street gambling and have recovered ` 16,000 cash and five mobile phones from them, recently.

M Kiran, Kumar, Puttaswamy, Chandru, Shekar, Manjunath, P Manju, Siddesh, Rajendra, Prakash, Ramaswamy, Kumar, Ravikumar and Papanna were those arrested. Most of them belong to Paduvarahalli.

Acting on an information, a police team led by Inspector H M Mahadevappa swooped on them when they were engaged in illegal activity near Kumbarakoppal.

They were produced before a court and were released on bail subsequently against surety of ` 300 on each.
