44,621 SSIs shut down

In a written reply furnished to N A Harris (Cong), Small Scale Industries Minister Venkataramanappa said there were 3.77 lakh Micro and Small Scale Industries in the State, of which 44,621 have been shut down.

Industries in Bangalore (Urban) are probably the worst hit with 13,233 of the 64,786 in the region having closed shop. The number of sick units is significantly high in Gulbarga (3,992) and Belgaum (3,762 units).

The minister said that the government, in coordination with nationalised banks, has identified 27,069 for restructuring loan and working capital.

In reply to a question posed by Dinesh Gundu Rao (Cong), Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Goolihatti Shekar said nine new stadia will be constructed in 2009-‘10, at a total cost of Rs six crore.

The new stadia will come up at Allur, Shiggaon, Hirekerur, Savanur, Aland, Chikkala, Lingasugur, Basavanabagevadi and Bilagi.
