<p>Vijayapura: A second-year <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mbbs">MBBS</a> student of Al Ameen Medical College was allegedly ragged and assaulted by his seniors during a cricket match on the college campus on Tuesday.</p><p>Five senior students - Mohammad Zainul, Sameer Tadpatri, Sheikh Saud, Mansoor Basha and Muzaffar Jamadar, all aged between 23 and 24 and natives of Karnataka, have been arrested on charges of ragging and assault, Vijayapura SP Laxman Nimbargi told <em>DH</em>.</p><p>According to sources, the victim, a native of Kashmir, has alleged that he was subjected to ragging and physical assault by the seniors. They (seniors) assaulted him and forced him to sing and dance following a scuffle during a cricket match on the college campus on Tuesday evening, the victim alleged.</p>.'Made to drink water seniors spat': Two students allege brutal ragging in Kerala college.<p><strong>Omar speaks to Siddu</strong></p><p>After the victim’s father took to X on the incident, tagging the prime minister, Union home minister and the chief ministers of Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir, J&K CM Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday that he has raised the issue with Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, who assured him of necessary action.</p><p>Meanwhile, the additional SP and Tikota tahsildar, following a direction by Vijayapura deputy commissioner T Bhoobalan visited the college and enquired about the well-being of the victim</p><p>The student has not suffered any injuries and is in good health. A report on the incident has been submitted to Medical Education principal secretary Mohammad Mohsin.</p><p>The principal secretary has suggested providing necessary help to the victim and initiating action against the senior students involved in the assault, T Bhoobalan told <em>DH</em>.</p><p><strong>No ragging, says college</strong></p><p>Meanwhile, Dr Jeelani Awati, medical director, Al-Ameen Medical College, played down the incident saying it was just a verbal clash during a cricket match and not ragging. “The victim’s team got into a verbal fight with the rival team during a cricket match on Tuesday evening. The players of both the teams were involved in a verbal exchange. In fact, the college has not witnessed any such (ragging) incident so far. We have a committee. We will hold an inquiry and take disciplinary action if any student is found guilty of ragging,” he told reporters.</p>
