500 RO units not working in Karnataka: Centre

Around 500 reverse-osmosis (RO) units of the total 9,000 installed in various districts in Karnataka are not working, Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.  

 Replying to Pralhad Joshi (BJP-Dharwad) during the Question Hour, Jigajinagi said the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has taken up the issue with Karnataka government to ensure that all ROs function throughout the year and rural mass get clean drinking water. The Ministry is giving funds to the state to instal ROs to provide safe and clean drinking water in water crisis-hit regions.

 When Joshi asked whether the Karnataka government has sent proposal to adopt modern technology for ROs to prevent wastage of water, the minister said the Centre has not received any such proposal.
