Students who found the option entry for engineering difficult and confusing will get another chance to make fresh option entries in the final round. Though the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) had given an option for multiple entries for each student, most candidates made very few entries, some even just one, thus missing seats.

“This is the maximum that the KEA can do. This cannot be done for other courses. Since many engineering seats remain vacant, students deprived of seats will get one last opportunity to get their options right. Students who have already taken admissions will not be eligible for this,” Gangadaraiah, administrative officer, KEA told DH.

Since the procedure was mostly online, many students were confused. Students are visiting the KEA office only for document verification. “I had come to KEA in 2010 for my daughter’s admission for an engineering course. I think the procedure was very simple then. After going online, norms and conditions were not conveyed clearly to students and parents. We did not know that we can make multiple entries and cannot add options once it is done. Now, my son has failed to get a seat in any of the colleges,” said Syed Aman, father of Syed Usman, an engineering aspirant.

Usman had entered only four options, and now he has not been allotted a seat in any of the colleges of his choice.

There are several other students who were deprived of seats due to the confusion. Gangadaraiah added, “We clearly asked students to cautiously go through the terms and conditions while making option entries. But still, the confusion persists. Hope students are extra cautious at least in the last round.”

Document verification of students who passed the supplementary exams is scheduled on August 1 and 2 at KEA centres across the state. “We have to complete procedures related to engineering by August 15 to avoid legal issues. Hence we will release seat allotments by this week,” said another senior KEA official.
