50th Annual Cake Show in Bengaluru pays tributes to Ratan Tata, S M Krishna

Bengaluru: The 50th Annual Cake Show at Bengaluru’s Palace Grounds featured spectacular tribute cakes honouring industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata and SM Krishna, the former chief minister of Karnataka.

The Institute of Baking and Cake Art (IBCA) unveiled a stunning 250-kg edible masterpiece celebrating Tata’s enduring legacy in industry and philanthropy. Created by a team led by Santanu, Mahesh, and Rahul over 10 days, the centrepiece featured a life-like sugar bust of Tata.

The intricate design included a sugar-crafted globe representing Tata’s global influence, surrounded by airplanes symbolising his revival of Tata Airlines.

At the base, a fondant bookshelf showcased miniature books bearing the names of Tata Group companies, such as Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Titan. Artists painstakingly hand-painted the globe, shaped the bust’s facial features, and crafted intricate details to bring the tribute to life.

IBCA also presented a 280-kilogram confection in honour of Krishna. The life-size sugar sculpture depicted Krishna seated at a desk, capturing his charismatic persona. Surrounding elements included a desk with work files, his signature accessories, and the Indian flag.

The desk was crafted from stacked cake layers carved and covered with fondant to mimic a wood-grain texture, while the flag was made from gum paste and fondant for a realistic finish. The edible artwork celebrated Krishna’s significant contributions to Karnataka’s development.
