<p> The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) may be struggling to make progress on some clearances along Reach 3 and 3-A, scheduled to be commissioned next, but work on the underground stretch on the East-West Corridor has been moving along at a brisk pace.<br /><br /></p>.<p>According to sources in the Corporation, the construction of underground metro stations on the corridor of Namma Metro’s Phase 1 have reached a crucial stage. “Contractors have already commenced putting up roof-slabs over the station box structure, moving closer to the completion of civil works at all the stations,” a source said. <br /><br />He added that the station roof will be three to six metres below the road and that soil will have be filled in over the top, followed by asphalting, to restore the road. <br /><br />Another official told Deccan Herald that BMRCL has invited tenders for architectural finishing work and landscaping (design and construction) of two stations on the East-West Corridor. <br /><br />“With much of the work having been completed, we have invited vendors to design and construct the Chinnaswamy Stadium and Vidhana Soudha stations,” he said, adding that the process of selecting vendors for two other stations, the Sir M Visvesvaraya (Central College) and City Railway Station have already begun.<br /><br />The tenders for the first two stations were invited earlier this year. The estimated cost of the Chinnaswamy and Vidhana Soudha projects is Rs 41 lakh.<br /><br />More than 90 per cent of the roof slab work on the City Railway Station near Leprosy Hospital on Magadi Road is complete, while nearly 60 per cent of the slab work is complete at the Sir M Visvesvaraya (Central College) station. <br /><br />‘To be completed soon’<br /><br />Stating that civil works at all the stations on the East-West Corridor are estimated to be completed by the end of the year, the official said that these stations — from Baiyappanahalli to Mysore Road Terminal (Nayandahalli), could be commercially operated before the North-South line (Hesarghatta Cross-Anjanapura) line.<br /><br />However, completion of the Majestic Station, where the East-West and North-South lines criss-cross and where two-levels of station are still under construction, could take more time. <br /></p>
