Burglar hiding in toilet hacks woman's leg, escapes

A woman was severely injured on her leg after an unidentified man attacked her with a machete inside the toilet in the basement of a residential building on Friday morning.

Girija, 32, a resident of Seethappa Layout at Manorayanapalya in Hebbal, whose leg was almost severed, was admitted to Ambedkar Medical College.

The suspect was hiding inside the toilet, waiting to commit burglary. The incident occurred around 4 am, said the police.

Girija, her husband and their children live on the third floor of the building. The couple prepares food in their house and sells it on a push cart in front of their house. Girija and her relative prepared the food early Friday morning. She kept containers with food on the push cart and went into the toilet.

She was shocked to see a man hiding inside with a machete and raised an alarm. The suspect attacked her with the machete when she tried to run. She collapsed as her leg was severely injured. The suspect then escaped despite locals’ attempt to catch him, said the police.

The police have obtained CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the assailant.
