DHiE Expressions: Spell Bee turns competition into a celebration of learning

Bengaluru: Deccan Herald in Education (DHiE) hosted its Spell Bee contest as part of 'DHiE Expressions 2024' at Naukara Bhavana in the city on Thursday.

Co-powered by Pilot, with Wonderla Parks & Resorts and Poorvika Mobile as associate sponsors, the event saw participation from 170 schools across the city.

Arul Mani, Dean of the School of Languages at St Joseph's University, served as the host and pronouncer, guiding students through challenging spelling rounds. These rounds tested not only their spelling skills, but also their composure and ability to think analytically in a competitive yet supportive environment.

"Spell Bees are typically high-tension events that put children under pressure to perform in front of an audience. We aim to make it a friendlier experience — one that encourages analytical thinking, strategic abilities, and a love for learning new words while having fun,” Mani remarked.

The Spell Bee formed a key part of DHiE Expressions, designed to cultivate a spirit of curiosity and learning among students. The competition provided a platform for participants to demonstrate their linguistic prowess and engage in healthy intellectual rivalry.

“I participated in the Spell Bee, which was not only fun, but also educational. It helped us enhance our vocabulary and broaden our knowledge on various topics,” said Sarah, a student from St Thomas Public School, New Thippasandra.

The event concluded with resounding applause from students, teachers, and parents, celebrating the impressive display of talent, camaraderie, and enthusiasm for learning.
