I-T sleuths to question Sasikala over seized documents

Income Tax sleuths will question former AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in the city. Prison officials said the questioning will take place on December 13 and 14.

The central agency has written to the state home department, seeking a meeting with Sasikala at the prison complex to get “clarifications” on certain documents seized during raids over five days in November last year. The prison department has consented to the request and has arranged the meeting.

During the raids, I-T officials found Rs 1,430 crore in undeclared income with Jaya TV and members of Sasikala’s family, including brother V K Divakaran. Authorities also recovered Rs 7 crore in cash, gold worth Rs 5 crore and a large collection of diamond jewellery during the raids.

In those five days, Income Tax officials said they raided nearly 187 locations across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Delhi over suspected tax evasion.
