Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has requested Bengalureans to use fewer crackers on Deepavali to keep the city will be clean and also air and sound pollution can be reduced.

Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said, “Lighting crackers, especially high-decibel ones, will create sound and noise pollution. It also creates a disaster in the city. The crackers will also produce garbage. Hence, we request the people not to burst many crackers this Deepavali.”

“We have taken steps to collect and dispose of the garbage created by crackers and other festival waste. Most of the crackers waste will be accumulated in the drainage and roads where the rainwater will not flow smoothly, this will create a lot of waterlogging on the roads,” he added.

Pet care advisory

The BBMP has also released a reminder that fireworks can cause stress and in severe cases, death to domestic and wild animals.

To help pets stay safe, theuy can be kept in a safe and secure place with people they trust. The BBMP has suggested to use cotton to plug the ears of pets and friendly stray dogs. Anxocare, a commercial product, is also available to help curb anxiety in animals, mainly dogs.

Due to their increased hearing abilities, crackers can cause a lot of fear and a stressed animal may panic and bite their owner or escape from their home, a BBMP press release said.
